Dolly Parton’s Iconic Style Journey Chronicled in Candid Memoir
Dolly Parton, the legendary country music icon, is treating her fans to a captivating journey through her remarkable style evolution in her latest memoir, “Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones.”
“I am happy, proud, and excited to present my book, Behind the Seams, to the public,” said the 77-year-old superstar. “It is my hope that you will enjoy a look at my life in costume and hair and get to know some of the great people who have helped shape my life and my look. Enjoy!”
The book offers an intimate glimpse into Dolly Parton’s life through a collection of photographs showcasing her most iconic fashion statements spanning from the 1960s to the present day. These images include her bold dresses and distinctive hairdos, capturing her journey from Nashville to her famous Playboy cover, her glamorous appearances at Studio 54, and more.
“Behind the Seams” is the second installment in a trilogy of memoirs that began with Parton’s 2020 bestseller, “Songteller: My Life in Lyrics.” The audiobook version of “My Life in Rhinestones” also features contributions from Dolly Parton’s lifelong fashion collaborators, such as Allister Ann, Jim Herrington, Vance Nichols, and Cheryl Riddle.
Dolly Parton has long been celebrated for her incredible vocal talents and her unique and unforgettable style. Whether gracing the red carpet or taking the stage, she has consistently captivated audiences with her one-of-a-kind fashion sense.
Her wardrobe has included standout outfits like the daring pink lace dress and rose-colored fur coat she wore at the premiere of “9 to 5” alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin in 1980, and the gold high-slit gown that left a lasting impression during her performance at The Dominion Theatre in London in 1983. Most recently, at the ACM Awards in May, Dolly Parton shone in a sequin-covered fringe top with retro shoulder pads, paired with shimmery pants adorned with dangling stones.
Parton candidly shared her commitment to her glitzy style in a recent interview with The Guardian. She explained that she refused to change her look, even when it may have worked “against” her. “My look came from a very serious place,” she revealed. “That’s how I thought I looked best. Sometimes that’s worked for me, sometimes it can work against you. It took me probably years to be taken seriously, but I wasn’t willing to change it, and I figured if I had the talent, it’d show up sooner or later.”
