After Taylor and Travis Kelce announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post Aug. 26, many celebrities reacted the news—including Prince William and Kate Middleton and Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, who all “liked” the celebratory post.
While Travis and Taylor might be the prince and princess in their own love story, the real Prince and Princess of Wales have been a part of their journey since the beginning. After all, Taylor and Travis made their relationship Instagram official in June 2024 by posting a selfie alongside Prince William and his children Prince George, 10, during a stop on the Eras Tour.
“Happy Bday M8!” the Grammy winner captioned the post, in honor of the William’s 42nd birthday. “London shows are off to a splendid start.”
Meeting the royal family turned out to be a family affair for Taylor and her future in-laws, as Travis’ brother Jason Kelce was also in attendance that night—although he confessed during the “Karma” singer’s Aug. 13 appearance on his New Heights podcast that he wasn’t sure how to behave during the monumental moment.
Reflecting on the moment Taylor asked Jason if she’d like to meet them, Travis recalled, “He was like, ‘What do I do with my beer?’”
Jason confirmed his thoughts, jumping in, “If I don’t have my beer, what do I do with this hand now? Or am I just, like, being authentic by having the beer? I would normally have the beer. Wouldn’t they want me to be myself?”
Taylor shared it was one of her favorite moments spent with Jason in the earlier days of getting to know the Kelce family, adding, “I’m watching you say that in your head, and it was fantastic.”
Travis also previously confessed to being skeptical about the regal introduction.
“Wasn’t sure if I was supposed to, like, bow to them, curtsy,” the Kansas City Chiefs player said in a June 2024 episode of their podcast, “just be an American idiot and shake their hand.”
And while Jason noted that they were told they didn’t need to greet them so formally due to it not being “an official meeting of royalty event,” he still tried to show his respect, sharing, “I did still address him as Your Royal Highness.”
But ultimately, it was Princess Charlotte who stole the show in their minds.
“The highlight was Princess Charlotte,” Jason added, noting that he might be biased as a girl-dad himself, before Travis jumped in calling her “a superstar.”

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s love story began in July 2023, when the singer’s Eras Tour made a stop at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.
As a huge Swiftie, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end caught the show with hopes of giving Taylor a friendship bracelet with his number on it. However, he failed to complete the pass due to her pre-show rituals.
“I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,” Travis shared on the July 26 episode of his New Heightspodcast. “So, I was a little butt-hurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her.”
